Sokka and Suki met in the Season 1 episode, “The Warriors of Kyoshi”. In the Kyoshi Warriors episode, he was amused at the idea of a group of girls ambushing and capturing Team Avatar. Later, Sokka saw the Kyoshi warriors training and decided to show Suki some of his skills as. After their successful rescue, the three began their journey to the North Pole together, with the intent of finding a waterbending master, who would teach the Avatar and Sokka's sister the secrets of waterbending. During their journey to the Northern Water Tribethe group stopped in several locations in the now war torn Earth Kingdom. Next up, Team Avatar stopped on Kyoshi Islandwhere Sokka met Sukiwith whom he at first had difficult relations, because of his more conservative views.

These views however would, in the course of Team Avatar's adventure, gradually fade into obscurity and eventually die out completely. On Kyoshi Island, they were ambushed by the Crown Prince and barely managed to escape. After leaving Kyoshi Island, Aang, Katara, and Sokka flew to the great Earth Kingdom metropolis of Omashuwhere they were brought before the elderly king of the city who treated them as royalty and threw a feast for them, but later imprisoned them. It was later revealed to them, that the elderly king of the city was none other than Bumia childhood friend of Aang.
Sokka kissed Yue as a spirit. Among their countless missions, Sokka and Team Avatar helped the villagers of Senlin Villagewho were being attacked by a spirit called Hei Bai this was an interesting experience for Sokka, as he ventured into the Spirit World ; barely escaped the clutches of Zhao and Prince Zuko, an event, in which Katara lost her mother's necklace; discovered the darker side of the resistance, when they came into contact with Jet and his Freedom Fighters who tried to destroy a neighboring village of Gaipan and kill all the Fire Nation civilians living there - this was mostly prevented by Sokka's foreshadowing alone; helped two warring tribes, the Zhang and the Gan Jin to cross the Great Divide and to reconciliate; saved a village, in which from the erupting Mt.

Suki teased Sokka about this, and an emotional Sokka shushed her as he watched the scene intently. Suki expressed notable jealousy at this. I treated you like a girl when I should have treated you like a warrior. His presumption that women were incompetent fighters was tested when he met Suki, a young female warrior, on Kyoshi Island.
Humbled by her skill, he turned to her for instruction.
The two bonded over sparring matches and, before parting, she kissed him on the cheek, causing Sokka to blush. She decided to accompany Team Avatar on their journey across the Serpent's Passmuch to Sokka's worry. He was extremely overprotective of Suki during the trip, and continued to be overbearingly cautious even after she confronted him about it.
During the night, Sokka and Suki talked where he explained to her how he did not want to lose anyone he cared about after his tragic experience with Princess Yue. As they talked, the moon was visible behind them, implying the presence of Princess Yue, the first girl he ever fell in love with, and whose death he blamed himself for causing. Suki expressed how important Sokka was to her and the two almost kissed, but Sokka drew back reluctantly because of his painful memories of Yue.
However, the next day when she bade him good-bye and apologized about the night before, he kissed her twice to confirm that he loves her before departing. In the middle of the solar eclipseAzula used her knowledge of Suki's whereabouts to successfully stall Sokka, Aang, and Toph.
Azula revealed that her favorite prisoner used to mention Sokka all the time, convinced that he would rescue her. However, he never came and she gave up on him. Sokka responded to Azula's taunts by shedding a single tear and rashly charging toward her.
Sokka and Suki finally reunited again at the Boiling Rockwhere she was being held. When Suki first saw Sokka, she could not recognize him due to his guard outfit and pushed him backward.
When she found out who he was, however, she happily embraced him. Shedding tears of joy, she revealed that she knew he would come and the two shared a kiss, only to be interrupted by Zuko warning them of an approaching guard. Sokka tearfully shushed her, so he could keep watching the scene with Suki expressing notable jealousy. Sokka responded by kissing her on the cheek, but the sand sculpture was destroyed shortly afterward by Zuko as he attacked Aang.
Midway through the mission, Suki was separated from Sokka and Toph when she became trapped on the falling vessel. Landing safely on another airship, she urged the others to continue their mission  and later returned, using a hijacked airship, to successfully save the two from falling to their deaths. Afterward, she explained how she was one of Zuko 's guards and overheard a complaint from Kunyo about a "dirt girl" and a "snow savage", thus traveling to them to check it out.
