She had her nose in a book and an empty seat beside her. Deciding to take a chance, he sat down next to her.
She looked up from her book. The first things he noticed were her eyes; one was sapphire blue while the other was emerald green. She had a heart-shaped face with large eyes and long, thick lashes. He glanced just below her neck for a second then forced his gaze upwards, hoping she hadn't noticed.
Even her voice was music to his ears. It's the first day! Don't fall in love on the first. Listen to your own brain! Uh, Kate, last time I checked, you were controlling— Me: The day was pretty standard for a school day until lunch. That's when Asriel saw Frisk heading to an empty area of the courtyard, as if she were going to eat by herself.
If you're seen with me, you won't have much of a chance to prove yourself. You're going to sit with me. Toriel forcing the player to fight her. Toriel in a Steam trading card. A side to side comparison of Toriel committing suicide right and Toriel being killed left. The only difference is the mouths. Toriel plush sold on Fangamer. Toriel's name is a play on the word "tu-torial," as she teaches the protagonist about how the game works. Despite Toriel's motherly nature, she is not above swearing: The narrator's reaction to Toriel's sock drawer and Sans's sock pile is similar.
Toriel once wore a flower-patterned muu-muu; other monsters complimented her by saying "nice muu-muu," but she assumed everyone was calling her a cow and never wore it again.
If the protagonist bores the Dummy during their encounter, Toriel stares in disbelief and confusion and starts thinking in a confused manner before moving to the next room without comment. When attempting to name the fallen human "Toriel," the response is: If Toriel was killed and the protagonist resets to the point before her battle, Toriel remarks that the protagonist looks like "they have seen a ghost. If the protagonist spares Toriel, she can be found by the flowerbed where the protagonist initially awoke after falling into the underground.
If the protagonist backtracks to talk to her, she tells them "Do not worry about me. Someone has to take care of these flowers. The player cannot call Toriel once they exit the ruins even if she was spared. While most players may assume that Toriel intentionally refuses to answer the protagonist's calls outside of the Ruins, she is actually unable to answer due to the Annoying Dog having stolen her phone.
Calling her with the Annoying Dog in the inventory causes ringing in the protagonist's inventory, implying that it stole and ate her phone. Attempting to open the menu by pressing C after fleeing her battle will have the menu disappear instantly, leaving the room will not reproduce the error.
This may come as a surprise to you But I have always wanted to be a teacher. I am only protecting you, do you understand? I will not stop you. However, when you leave Please do not come back. I hope you understand. So you must have a place to return to, do you not?
What will you do now? You really are a funny child.

Eventually you will reach an exit. His plan cannot be allowed to succeed. Be good, won't you? To think I was worried you wouldn't fit in out there This is Gaster's justification for his heinous actions after Hermann's death, such as experimenting on fallen children and his neglect of his sons, but it is thoroughly torn apart when Hermann herself appears and calls him out for his actions. As this is an ask blog, this trope applies.
At first, Frisk is seen viewing the questions on their Tumblr, but after the void is ripped, the characters start hearing the questions directly. One of the first questions on the blog is about what it's like living with Flowey.
Frisk responds with "I think there's more of Asriel in him than he pretends there is. Asriel's soul can be spotted inside of Chara's in a select few panels if you look closely. Maverick also drops a hint related to his soul as well with his flash drive. There were a surprising amount of clues that Callallied is actually Chara; it's just that few, if anyone, thought of the possibility and put the clues together until after The Reveal.
Callallied's submission details a backstory that matches Chara's exactly, and describes how they want to get close to Frisk to prove that humanity is bad; they are apprehensive when they realize Maverick is nearby; Chara dug up a body and knitted clothes; and more.
Word Of God and later on in the comic proper, Alphys discuss something called the "Metamorphosis Theory" where Humans become Monsters by possessing then later bonding to objects, similar to ghost monsters like Mettaton in Undertale canon. Guess what ultimately happens to Chara. Frying Pan of Doom: Get a Hold of Yourself, Man! One asker used the Exact Words Flowey used when he was pissed that Hermann didn't even realize she has her soul back against him, anticipating that Flowey would be in denial after it was discovered that a bit of Asriel's soul still remains in Flowey.
Flowey stated how soulless creatures can only feel basic survival instinct and the satisfaction of beating someone at Smash Bros. Just as Flowey said it was " incredibly stupid " of Hermann to dive into a river of Piranhas to save Gaster, the asker pointed out how Goopster could've easily killed him if it weren't for Toriel shielding him from the blast, and the first idea he got was to ATTACK the same guy who almost killed him not 5 minutes before in retaliation.
Flowey was neither amused nor able to come up with a counter argument. Giver of Lame Names: Asgore's lousy naming skills continue, with the city where they all live on the surface being called Monster Town. Go for the Eye: Jason escapes Twinkies by throwing Pocket Sand in his eyes. Go Mad from the Revelation: Subverted and lampshaded a few times in the comic. A few characters express surprise that they can take in stride matters such as disembodied voices from beyond the Void and even learning their entire world is a work of fiction to those voices.
Alphys suspects that the "forces at play" i. Undyne and Papyrus play this with Maverick. Hermann does this on occasion. Undyne responds with some after an asker responds to them punching Adrian for harming Papyrus.
Chara dug up at least one grave from the underground, which apparently ties into their plan. Later, it turns out that they dug up their own skeleton to use as a puppet. Which is good because their biological parents were horrible. Undyne has two mothers, and Alphys had two fathers. In Red Echoes, Sans constantly insists that everyone else should kill him so Chara would die alongside him.
Everybody refuses to and he manages to survive without killing Chara. Flowey knows the periodic table well enough to translate Gaster's meme. Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Toriel becomes a victim of this at the hands of a possessed Sans although she does survive.
The Riverperson shows the ability to block spoilers as a way to keep the reveal that she is Hermann, Gaster's wife, from being revealed too early. Maverick Chaosdragon also has the ability to alter the narration. It Makes Sense in Context: This gem from Papyrus explaining about askers to Jason: They helped my brother meme a ghost out of his mind yesterday. Sans after being woken up from his "sexy burger dream". Downplayed, because Sans was being more Innocently Insensitive for having his "sexy burger dream" while Toriel was in a fit of depression.
Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Flowers, Braids, and Twinkies. They openly insult Frisk's authority, but they care enough about Papyrus to take revenge for him against Aidrian.
Late to the Realization: Seriously, what did they THINK would happen when they possessed the body of a person drunk out of their gourd? At times, such as when an asker asked to look at Jason's soul.
According to Gersonthe canon prophecy foretelling the Barrier's destruction was actually a sapient Winds of Destiny, Change spell cast by the wizards who created the barrier in the first place. Being essentially an Eldritch Abomination with Blue and Orange Moralityit took its criteria fairly seriously and very literally.
The Chosen One referred to in the prophecy is called "an angel" and "they". Gerson suspects that the wizards meant "a good person whose gender doesn't matter", but the prophecy took it as "an innocent child who would be properly referred to by the prounoun 'they'", which is why all the potential Chosen Ones were non-binary young children.
Undyne's backstory reveals she was this. She tore up a library when she was told to "hit the books". Love at First Sight: Looks like a one-sided variation. Love Makes You Dumb: Discussed in Red Echoes. Monster Kid makes it clear that they want this trope Averted.
River Person uses metaphors to state that this trope is inevitable.
The trope is cited twice as evidence that someone who previously thought themselves The Soulless has actually regained theirsor at least are in the process of doing so. In Red Echoes, we go from Chara! Sans impaling Toriel to Monster Kid acquiring a purple echo flower and the ensuing fluff. D" Murder Is the Best Solution: Subverted when it's revealed they never intended to outright kill Aidrian.
An anon used an ask to say that they wanted to see a demonically possessed Sans suffer. They express regret in a later ask when Toriel is seemingly killed because of their ask.

Named by the Adaptation: Burgerpants' real name is given as Willard Scott Jr. One of the fallen children, specifically the purple soul. Chara blames Toriel for using Frisk as a Replacement Goldfish. Chara blames Asgore for re-igniting the Human-Monster War. Chara blames Asriel for making their Thanatos Gambit fail. What Chara refuses to acknowledge is that it was their Thanatos Gambit that led to all of these events happening.
Nice Job Fixing It, Villain! Frisk was originally very timid and shy because of their "Parents".

Frisk was easy to coerce into letting them take full control of their body. That was, at least, until Sans came into the picture and unleashed his wrath. His resolve to keep fighting Chara, despite the hopeless odds, showed Frisk they can still keep fighting. So Frisk took a level in offscreen character development and became the child of determination they are now.
