In celebration, the United Kingdom, United States and the Netherlands have planned a series of transatlantic events to commemorate the sailing that served to cement a unique relationship between the three countries.
With aquatics and water-related events at the core of the celebration, Plymouth Leander Swimming will seek to build upon and promote aquatics in the city of Plymouth from through to the main events in The Harwich Cup will represent the kick-off event, incorporating the initial journey of the Mayflower Pilgrims from Harwich into the pre and post-meet advertising as well as throughout the poolside presentation.

Additionally, the three-day competition will this year be moved to a National event running order, with morning preliminaries and evening finals due to the popularity of the event in previous years. For participating clubs, the PL National Qualifier is a worthwhile experience —in terms of its excellent swimming facilities, welcoming atmosphere and the organizational competence of host club Plymouth Leander. Top swimmers are here from all over Britain and further afield, and it gives our guys an opportunity to compete against the best.
The 2017 Plymouth Leander Harwich Cup National Qualifier
A well-run meet requires a top-notch organizing team and Plymouth Leander is fortunate to have a dedicated committee with a wide array of volunteers, officials, and sponsors to ensure the success of an efficient, friendly and fast competition.
The Plymouth Leander Harwich Cup National Qualifier is an event that is open to teams and swimmers from around the world, and provides an excellent opportunity to explore a historic city and region of the United Kingdom. Adam Bolton broke records in the m Butterfly, m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle.
Emily Walker broke a record in the m Backstroke. Grace Kellett broke the 25m freestyle record. Rebekah Marr broke the m Individual medley record. Nicola Porter broke the m Butterfly record. The weather conditions were not as ideal as previous year but still a successful event. The senior swimmers had to complete 5km in the bay. South West region masters regional competition - November Ann Grantham swam for the Devon County team who won the regional competition and came 4th nationally.
Presentation evening — 24th November This year the presentation was divided into championship presentation and junior presentation as the event was become too big for the RMB Stonehouse.
The championship event was a great success with award. Also records were broken in the ladies 4 x 1 Freestyle relay and the mixed 4 x 1 Freestyle relay. George Moss gained 2nd in m backstroke Katie Want gained 2nd in m backstroke and 3rd in m butterfly.
Club Championships — 8th — 20th July There were 21 records broken at the club swimming championships in the different age groups.
Carys Williams broke the 25m Backstroke record. This year the temperature was much colder and there were a number of swimmers stung by jelly fish. More of our younger swimmers were able to take part as they are now Exeter Sprint competition — 15th September 7 swimmers took part in the sprint gala again. Although it was once again a very long day 31 heats for girls m IM all swimmers did really well after their summer break. Emma Lowe gained 3rd in m Freestyle.

This year it was decided to revert back to separate presentation events for those who took part in the club championships and certificate swimmers. This year the female swimmers of the year was Emily Walker and George Moss was the male swimmer.
Plymouth Leander Meet - Truro Swim Club
End of term — December As usual it was a fun session for the last Saturday before the Christmas holidays and the Monday squad sessions was replaced with a game of skittles in HMS Drake.
A 6 lane 25m pool which was built from money mainly raised by Help for Heroes. It has a hydro pool, multipurpose gym and the pool has adjustable floor.
The only issue is the depth is quite shallow and there are no turn flags. The last sessions at the old pool were fun sessions with the older swimmers leaving the pool at the same time.
