Nichols is a Little Canada, Minn. Olympic team — which helped lead to Nassar's removal. Nassar is now in prison, serving out sentences for child pornography and the sexual abuse of hundreds of girls that will almost certainly leave him locked up for the rest of his life. Nichols, who will be a junior at the University of Oklahoma this fall, said it "means the world" to be selected for the honor. She called it "a dream come true" to attend the event, adding it's "incredible that they're recognizing us for what we've been through.
Kindler said Nichols struggled with her decision to go public. The coach described her star gymnast as "an extremely sensitive woman" who always wants to do the right thing. Because you have to go out on a limb sometimes, you have to take a risk, and that's a very uncomfortable place for Maggie — to take that risk. She's grown so much through this process because of that. Each account gave her additional confidence and courage. By speaking out, Nichols felt she would do the same for girls everywhere.

Kaitlyn competed level nine in She placed third on floor at the Northern Lights Invitational. She placed second on bars, fourth on beam, sixth on floor and eighth all-around at the State Championships.
She finished fourth on beam, seventh on floor and sixth all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she placed fifth on bars and 17th all-around. She also won first place on bars at in Event Finals for bars at the Northern Lights meet and scored the highest beam score of any level nine gymnast at IGI Chicago Style with a 9. In post season competition, Kaitlyn took first place on bars, second on beam and third on floor at State.

She capped off a tremendous season by winning the national title with first places on both bars and beam at Westerns where she also placed second in the all-around competition in the most competitive age group in the field.
